The Road Trip project began with a simple question from my daughter: "Did you take a lot of road trips when you were young?" Reminded of family car trips and hitch hiking up and down the West Coast of the U.S. with a guy who is now my husband, provided the fuel to begin. The small works in this series combine acrylic paint and map fragments to comment on how the places we travel to can shape who we are and how we think. Each paper punched hole represents a travel zone; a sense memory snippet serving as a window to a time/place remembered. Each canvas is a travelogue of spots journeyed to or yet to be reached. My aim is to create a simple and direct connection between the viewer and my work. |
